Welcome to Take Care, a three-part blog series at b-glowing!

The holidays are the happiest—and arguably most hectic—time of the year. Amidst the season's many obligations and commitments, self-care is all too easy to overlook. We dedicate every free moment to nurturing loved ones, leaving us too tired to give love and compassion back to ourselves. To help you combat stress—and get through the season with your sanity intact—we're offering tips on how to Take Care of your mind, body, and spirit. As b-glowing founder Lisa says, "That's the most important gift we can give to ourselves, no matter the season."

To kick things off, we've compiled five easy-to-adopt techniques for taking care of your mind during the holidays.

1. Practice self-care, each and every day

When you start to feel stressed, take a moment to do something that gets you out of your mind and into your body. Whether it's listening to music, doing yoga stretches, deep breathing, or simple meditation, anchor yourself in the present moment and let go of your worries.



2. Work. It. Out.

A good way to boost your mood and maintain holiday cheer? Getting some early morning, outdoor exercise. According to research from the Oregon Health & Science University, morning light helps counteract seasonal affective disorder. The sunlight—combined with the numerous positive effects of exercise—helps boost mood levels during the holidays.

Our favorite way to de-stress at work? Grabbing a coworker and taking a quick walk around the block—and probably stopping for a coffee along the way.

3. Put yourself first

Between all the parties, get-togethers and obligations, it's easy to forget your own needs. Shield yourself from burnout by RSVPing "no" once in a while. Remember, you can't please everyone! Practice moderation—pick and choose when you want to socialize, and when you stay in and binge watch Netflix. Our current favorite show? Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

4. Don't overindulge

The holidays—with all those snack platters, cookies and Moscow Mules—can totally destroy good eating habits. And unfortunately, junk food—and weight gain—can really aggravate stress.

It may seem like a no-brainer, but if you're going to a party later, keep feeding your body healthy foods throughout the day. That way, you won't wind up feeling hungry and gorging yourself later.

5. Get plenty of zzz's.

One basic human need we neglect during the holidays? SLEEP. We know it sounds obvious, but if you find yourself burning out, REST. You'll feel less stressed—and more centered—after a good night's sleep.
